The Ecosystems and Environment programme empowers communities to manage their environment and natural resources sustainably. The focus covers forests, wetlands, freshwater sources, extractives, rangelands, birds, fisheries and wildlife so that economic growth does not come at the expense of nature.

In search for ways of sustaining the lives of communities that conserve diverse natural resources, EMLI’s Livelihood Programme aims at harnessing natural capital for improved human well-being. The programme responds to multiple shocks that exacerbate the vulnerability of poor communities that rely on agriculture as a primary source of food and income.
